"The mind waiting for snow is the true mind."
William Meredith
It is the reptile in us
that knows the sun has died,
that soon the rocks will turn
blue and lifeless.
It is the fortune teller's ball
on the verge of turning crystal,
the fertile clouds
about to spill their seed
into the grey of afternoon
like milkweed pods
opening to the breeze.
It hears a child crying somewhere
that it can not quite make out,
a door has been left ajar,
a beloved left abandoned,
accidentally forgotten.
In a moment the world will
start turning again, a lone blue jay
scream a singular warning on the air.
The sky will break, the mind will
awake from the dream which has
been tempting to nightmare which
slithers back into the rocks now
sleeping beneath the snow.
